FUTURISTIC MAKEUP:

HOW TO GET THE Y3K AESTHETIC

November, 2025 by Sasha Kleinman

Y3K Makeup is the ultimate fusion of fantasy and future. Part video game, part outer space, part alternate reality, the key to futuristic makeup is making it look out of this world. Think chrome lids, glassy lips, and cheekbones sharp enough to slice through dimensions. “For this look, I was really thinking space,” says Alexandra French, Makeup Artist. “I wanted the eyes to mimic futuristic glasses.”

Enter Shadeshift Chrome Eye Shadow and Dazzleshadow Liquid, strategically used on the bottom lash line. “It was a play on traditional eyeliner. Instead of up, let’s go down, really futuristic, really daring.” The combo of these beaming, almost-reflective metallics, though, is the embodiment of the Y3K aesthetic.

And don’t sleep on the galactic glow from Skinfinish Lightstruck Liquid Highlighter in this extraterrestrial violet hue. This bold use of colour combined with the pops of shimmering, metallic chrome will have your futuristic makeup looking like you just got off a high-style spaceship.

“ANYTHING
FUTURISTIC IS
LEADING AWAY
FROM SOFT,
LEADING INTO
SHARP LINES,
REFLECTION —
NOT NATURAL
MATERIALS.”
